Welcome

The Museum You Carry: A book launch at Postmuseum

Wednesday 18th November, Postmuseum, Lilla Nygatan 6, Gamla Stan, Stockholm

In 1906, the Swedish Post Office opened a museum about itself housed in seven rooms of its old post house. A working post office continued in the same building. One kept the past. The other carried the post.

Most organisations never do this. Their culture sits in the same building as their work, with no room of its own. The Museum You Carry gives it six. It also offers C.U.R.I.O., a simple method for deciding what to keep, what to change, and what to let go.

"The museum shall not wait in lofty seclusion for people to come and pick the fruits of knowledge. The museum shall step towards people and offer them these fruits."
Erik Lannge, Postmuseum's first director, 1906

Offer is the last step of C.U.R.I.O. Tonight is our Offer to you.

“For perhaps the first time ever, we have a book that lifts the veil on what an organisation actually is: a collection of artefacts that are sometimes obvious, sometimes obscure, and, very occasionally, magical. Honest and ground-breaking work.”
Malcolm Larri Leadership & Communication Expert

On the evening

  • The art from the book
  • A first look at a few pieces from the founding collection of the Museum of Organisational Culture, ahead of the pop-up museum early next year.
  • A short reading and a conversation with Jenny Theolin
  • Drinks, and copies of the book to buy and sign

Two (optional) ways to take part

  1. Bring an object from your working life
Something you have carried for longer than you meant to. An access card that no longer opens anything. A notebook from your first week, still half empty. A Post-it note with a password you no longer need. A business card with a title you no longer have. A farewell card you still reread. The Collection Room will open for submissions, and your object could become part of the museum pop-up.
  2. Come in office uniform
A suit and tie, a boiler suit, a captain's hat. Everyone in uniform goes into a raffle to win a copy of the book.

RSVP by November 6th.
